The annual Chesapeake Panthers Invitational wrestling tournament sent its championship trophy across the Ohio River.

Spring Valley (W.Va.) posted a 5-0 record to win the round robin tournament. Wellston was the runner-up at 4-1 followed by Winfield (W.Va.) at 3-2, Chesapeake 2-3, Fairland 1-4 and Lincoln County (W.Va.) was 0-5.

Justin Pitts was the only Chesapeake wrestler to place among the top two individuals in each weight class as he finished runner-up in the 103-pound division.

Fairland’s Tanner Sowards was second in the 145 class, Nathaniel Brewer was runner-up at 171, and Schylar Moore also placed second in the 189 division.

This past weekend at the WSAZ-TV 3 wrestling tournament, the Panthers had three wrestlers advance to the round of 16. Pitts advanced in the 103 class, Alex McDonald in the 112-pound division, and Cody Crank also came within one win of playing for a place in the 140 class.
