When it comes to market steers at the Lawrence County Fair, Brenna Morris stole the show.
Morris, an eighth grader at Symmes Valley Elementary, won grand champion of the market steer show at the Lawrence County Fair Wednesday evening.
The 13-year-old has been showing steers for the past four years and won grand champion last year with a feeder calf. Despite having won before, Morris said, “it was still exciting.”
Not only did Morris walk away with the grand championship, she also won junior showman and the opportunity to compete in the showman of showmen Friday morning.
“I’m nervous about it,” she said. “You have to show the other animals and everyone else (competing) has won showman.”
Morris and her steer were chosen out of the 36 exhibitors that participated. Greg Meyer, from the Ohio State University extension in Warren County, judged the competition.
Naaman Dyer, a 15-year-old Chesapeake High School student, won reserve champion of the show.
“I was pretty excited,” Dyer said of winning.
Justin Payne, a recent graduate of Symmes Valley High School, won senior showman. Last year Payne won the same title and he also won showan of showmen.
“I was kind of surprised,” Payne said of winning. “I was in a class with some really good showmen.”
