The Chesapeake Lady Panthers had a gift for their lone senior Paige Nelson: a big win.
The Lady Panthers used a big scoring effort along with some strong defense to roll past the South Gallia Lady Rebels 63-38 on Saturday.
“That was a good win for our girls. It was senior night and they wanted to play well for Paige,” said Chesapeake coach Sammy Gue.
“Our passing was incredible and we did a great job on the glass (Amanda) Ruffner and (Kimmie) Bennett. We didn’t give up second shots.”
Ruffner scored 22 points and Sarah Mayo had 18 to lead the Lady Panthers. Bennett scored 13 — all in the first half.
South Gallia took a 10-9 lead in the first quarter despite seven points by Bennett.
But Ruffner scored 12 points in the second quarter as Chesapeake exploded for 26 points and took a 35-16 halftime lead.
Mayo and Ruffner combined for 20 of the 24 points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 59-23.
Chandra Canaday had 11 points for South Gallia (13-6).
