Ex-player hopes to help African homeland

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A year after his final college game, former Marshall player Jean Francois Bro Grebe is trying to generate more interest in basketball in his African homeland.

A native of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Bro Grebe has co-produced a 13-minute documentary that will debut at the Appalachian Film Festival on Thursday night at the Keith Albee Theater in Huntington

The film “Make A Dream Happen” highlights his work to help children of the Ivory Coast play basketball. He also wants to improve hospital and living conditions in local villages.

Before the film’s showing, Bro Grebe’s nonprofit foundation, Give a Little, Save a Lot, will hold a fundraising dinner at the Huntington Arcade Building.

He says he plans to return to the Ivory Coast in December.

Bro Grebe played at Marshall from 2005-08.
