Man gets four years for robbery

An Ironton man will serve four years in prison for second-degree robbery.
Troy Massie, 19, of 5740 State Route 93, Ironton, pleaded guilty to the charge Tuesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. Judge Charles Cooper sentenced Massie to four years in prison.
Also in court Wednesday, an Ironton man who stole lumber from a construction site pleaded guilty to theft and criminal trespassing.
Judge Charles Cooper asked Eastham for details about the theft.
“I’ve been strung out on drugs for a long time,” Eastham told the judge. “I saw something that I wanted and I took it.”
The man also said he had not planned the theft beforehand with his co-defendant, Kenneth Bentley, 22, of 832 Turvey St., Flatwoods, Ky. The two were driving around when Eastham asked Bentley to help him.
“He was a young kid; he was vulnerable,” Eastham said.
Cooper sentenced Eastham to a total of eight months in prison for the charges. Eastham also admitted to a CCS violation and was sentenced to another eight months in prison.
His sentences will be served consecutively for a total of 16 months in prison.
In other cases:
Steven Douglas, 28, of 1017 County Road 52, Ironton, pleaded guilty to theft from an elderly person and theft of a motor vehicle.
Cooper sentenced Douglas to a total of 18 months in prison and ordered him to pay around $1,800 in restitution.
Jeffrey Shope, 51, of 2434 S. Eighth St., Ironton, denied violating the terms of his community-control sanctions. A CCS trial has been set for July 27.
Steven Dale Henson, 45, of 371 County Road 3, Chesapeake, pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs.
Judge Charles Cooper set bond at $50,000 cash and scheduled a pretrial for Aug. 3.
Brandon M. White, 19, of 355 County Road 3 trailer B, Chesapeake, pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering, theft from an elderly person and contributing to the unruliness of a child.
Cooper continued bond from a lower court and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Aug. 10.
Kevin McDonald, 46, of Rockwood, Mich., pleaded not guilty to possession of heroine, trafficking in heroine, possession of drugs, trafficking in drugs and aggravated possession of drugs.
Cooper set bond at $20,000 cash or surety and scheduled a pretrial hearing for July 27.
Amy L. Hesson, 32, of 56 Township Road 1039 room 5, Chesapeake, pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering and theft. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Aug. 3.
Dana Clay, 48, of 3725 County Road 64, Willow Wood, pleaded not guilty to three counts of felonious assault with firearm specifications. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Aug. 3.
Rodney Johnson, 46, of 948 Tenth Ave., Huntington, W.Va., pleaded not guilty to felony criminal nonsupport of a child and misdemeanor criminal nonsupport of a child. Cooper set a $25,000 bond and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Aug. 3.
Charles McKenzie, 47, who has an Ironton address according to his indictment, admitted to a CCS violation.
The man’s defense attorney, Samantha Fields said McKenzie has been living in rural Greenup County, Ky. and has had no transportation and could not report to adult probation.
Cooper sentenced McKenzie to 9 months in prison with credit for time served.
