OHSAA approves 3rd football preseason scrimmage game

The Ohio High School Athletic Association is adding another scrimmage and calling it a Jamboree game. And that extra practice game is going to revive the Ironton at Coal Grove scrimmage.
The OHSAA is permitting teams to have one of the following:
A. One scrimmage, one preview and one Jamboree game
B. One scrimmage and a Jamboree
C. Two scrimmages and one Jamboree
D. Two scrimmages
E. One scrimmage and one preview
The Jamboree game is conducted like a game. While a preview is two quarters, a Jamboree is four quarters and teams can charge admission. The schools must pay a $250 application fee to cover insurance costs.
Also, seventh and eighth grade teams are now allowed a second scrimmage but the first scrimmage is not allowed until after 10 days of practice. Next year the second scrimmage will be eliminated but teams may play eight games.
Ironton will play at Coal Grove in a Jamboree game at a date to be announced.
Record setters
South Point senior Ericka Leighty wasn’t the only team member to get in the OHSAA record books with her 80th career stolen bases last week.
First baseman Tausha Collins hit two home runs in a game. Leighty got in the books again by hitting home runs in back-to-back games.
Tickets for sale
Tony Fuller has moved to Denver. That’s not anything to be concerned with for most people outside his family unless you’re a Cleveland Browns fan.
Fuller has Browns season tickets. However, being in Denver is going to make it a little difficult to attend the games so he is selling his tickets.
Anyone who is interested should contact his parents Kevin and Sue Keeney at (740) 533-0397.
Jim Walker is the Ironton Tribune sports editor.
