KITTS HILL — Opening a new restaurant can be a tricky business, but one couple says they are only giving the people what they’ve been craving: fresh food.

Kevin Dickess and Sarah Cornelius have spent the past several weeks cleaning and prepping their new restaurant, County Cruise-In Café, on State Route 93, formerly Burgers and More and more recently, Porky’s BBQ.

For the Kitts Hill couple, this is their first attempt at a restaurant, but are confidant that a simple menu and quality food will make their place a mainstay.

“People want fresh food and that’s what they are going to get here,” Dickess said.

County Cruise-In Café will serve dairy bar favorites like hotdogs and foot-longs, burgers, French fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, fish tail and grilled chicken sandwiches.

They will feature special homemade hotdog sauce, a half-pound Big Chief burger with fresh meat from Dickess Market and the only thing frozen will be the ice cream and slushies.

“As we go, we’ll add more things to the menu and specials,” Cornelius said, adding that suggestion cards will be used to determine what the people want.

County Cruise-In Café will also be open for breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday staring at 7 a.m. Homemade French toast, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon will be among the choices.

The couple believes the restaurant is what people out in the county will see as a closer option, rather than having to go into Ironton or even Kentucky for breakfast fare or a cool ice cream treat.

The restaurant will also be a haven for classic car owners who want somewhere to hang out on the weekends with their rides, as there will be a cruise-in each Friday and Saturday night.

And as for making the restaurant a mainstay in the community, Dickess and Cornelius said, “You don’t know if you don’t try.”

It is time for a change,” Dickess said. “Everybody wants a change.”

County Cruise-In Café is open now, opening at 10 a.m. during the week and 7 a.m. on the weekends for breakfast.

There will be a grand opening Saturday with $1.75 burgers and $1 hotdogs.
