Although its popularity may not be what it once was, the Boy Scouts of America organization continues to shape our nation’s boys into men.

So, it is only fitting that a group of young men from Ironton will make the trip to Washington, D.C. to see those who shape our nation’s future and also the monuments and memorials to all those who have made our great country what it is today.

Boy Scout Troop 106 from Ironton has been invited to our nation’s capital to get a first-hand look at our seat of government and the many attractions in the city.

These young men should appreciate this opportunity that not everyone gets and hopefully this will open people’s eyes to exactly how important the Boy Scouts still are.

The Scouts focus on six core goals: mentoring, lifelong learning, faith traditions, serving others, healthy living and building character.

When you look at the values and principles that the Boy Scouts of America are built upon, they are similar to the ones our nation was built upon.

The decline in popularity of the Boy Scouts certainly can be linked to the decline in our society’s overall morals and values system.

In fact, our nation might be much better off we had a whole lot more Boy Scouts in Washington, D.C.
