A man who stole money from his former employer was sentenced Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Jonathan Rayburn, of 1109 N. Second St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to a bill of information that includes one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony. By proceeding with a bill of information, Rayburn waived his right to have a grand jury decide if there was enough evidence for an indictment.
Cooper sentenced Rayburn to eight months in prison with credit for time served. He is also required to pay $600 in restitution to the victim.
“I am sorry for what I did and stuff like that,” he said, adding that he was trying to get money that was owed to him.
Cooper stipulated that Rayburn’s prison time will run concurrently with time he has to serve for charges in Jackson County.
Also during Common Pleas Court, Charles Brown, 24, of 130 Lane St., Coal Grove, was sentenced to four months in prison for violating the terms of his community-controlled sanctions.
Cooper also allowed Brown a furlough until Sept. 20, when he is to report to the Lawrence County Jail.
