HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Charlie’s Harley-Davidson is holding a bike night from 6-9 p.m. tonight.

This event is open to the public and will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Tri-State (RMH).

RMH will be raffling off items in support of their programs. Food will be provided by Charlie’s Diner and $1.00 of each meal purchased will be donated to RMH. Entertainment will be provided by Madhouse, a local

Ironton band. Charlie’s Harley-Davidson welcomes all motorcycle riders.

Army Corps expands alcohol ban at lake

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is expanding an alcohol ban at Sutton Lake.

The Corps banned alcohol more than 20 years ago at the lake’s Bee Run and dam site recreation areas.

Under the new order, alcohol will be prohibited at all Corps managed property at the lake, including the lake itself.

The Corps says the ban should help reduce the number of late night disturbances at two campgrounds and reduce boating and other water related accidents.

The ban goes into effect on June 15.

‘Chalk Walk’ during First Friday events

ASHLAND, Ky. — On Friday June 5th, 2009, the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center will host “Chalk Walk.”

The event will be held in conjunction with First Friday activities in downtown Ashland.

The activity begins at 5:15 and lasts until 8:15pm. There will be an amateur sidewalk drawing competition.

Art will truly come to life at this event of free activities and family fun.

Admission to the museum is free for the evening. There will be free food and live music.

Summer sessions set to begin June 29

ASHLAND, Ky. — Summer session II at Ashland Community and Technical College begins June 29 and ends Aug. 4.

Registration at the College Drive Campus is Friday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration at the Roberts Drive and Technology Drive campuses is by appointment with the instructor.

For recent high school graduates, summer courses are an opportunity to start college early.

Deputies looking into theft of $105,000

WILLOW WOOD — Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft of more than $100,000 from a Willow Wood woman.

The victim reportedly told authorities that when her husband became ill, a neighbor told her he would be willing to keep $105,000 she had been keeping in a bank safety deposit box at the bank at a safe in his house to prevent the woman from having to pay taxes on it.

The victim told deputies when she asked for her money the neighbor refused to give it to her. The man reportedly told a local attorney the victim’s spouse, now deceased, had told him to keep the money and “take care of his wife,” the sheriff’s office report said. The victim has denied she needs the assistance.

The victim also told deputies some retirement funds checks are also missing. The total of both the missing money and checks is $122,000.

South Point business robbed

SOUTH POINT — A local businesswoman is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who robbed her business earlier this week.

The Super Wash Coin Laundry at 404 Fourth St. E., was robbed late Wednesday night, the second time in two months, business operator Sue Rodriguez said. In each incident, an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

South Point Patrolman Lennis Abrams said he does not think the two incidents are related. He urged anyone with information to call the South Point Police Department at 377-4011.
