Teenager pleads not guilty to rape charge

A teenager charged in the rape of a 12-year-old who allegedly invited him over to have sex has denied the accusations.
David Turvey, 19, 623 Railroad St., is charged with first-degree rape of a female juvenile under the age of 13. Turvey pleaded not guilty in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Wednesday.
Prosecutor Mack Anderson said the victim, a 12-year-old girl, asked Turvey to come to her house for the purpose of having sex.
A pretrial hearing has been set for Aug. 4.
Also in Common Pleas Court Wednesday, Ben Smith, 32, 419 Mulberry St. Ironton, pleaded guilty to a one-count bill of information that included a charge of breaking and entering.
Judge Charles Cooper sentenced Smith to 10 months in prison and ordered him to pay court costs. Cooper set bond at $25,000 and ordered Smith to report to prison Aug. 9.
Raysha Cowan, 20, of Rogersville Tenn., pleaded not guilty to one count of tampering with evidence and one count of burglary. Cooper set bond at $35,000 and set a pretrial hearing for Aug. 4.
Shayne McCallister, 25, of 506 Lorain St. Ironton, pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated robbery and one count of breaking and entering.
John Blair, 31, of 28 Private Drive 176 Ironton, pleaded guilty to escape. Judge Scott Bowling sentenced Blair to 10 months is prison.
Shane Garretson, 19, of 26 Anna Clinton St., pleaded guilty to breaking and entering. Bowling sentenced Blair to six months in prison and ordered him to pay court costs. Blair will also have three years of post release control and pay $450 in restitution. Bowling set bond in the case at $50,000 and ordered Blair to report to prison Aug. 6.
Gregory Cox, 29, of 1539 County Road 21, in Ironton, pleaded not guilty to four counts of receiving stolen property. A pretrial hearing in the case will be Aug. 11. Bowling set bond at $25,000.
