Two women were arrested Wednesday on drug charges stemming from an incident near the Ironton City Center.

Shayla R. Perkins, 19, 3341 State Route 243, Coal Grove, was charged with possession of drugs (Percocet) and possession of drug abuse instruments.

Deanna D. Bledsoe, 26, of 615 N. Sixth St., Ironton, was charged with possession of marijuana.

Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said Perkins was arrested after she was allegedly observed sitting in a car in the 300 block of Vernon Street with the car seat belt wrapped around her arm.

“(She was allegedly) trying to get a vein to shoot up,” he said. Bledsoe, who had gone to the city building to pay her water bill, was arrested shortly thereafter.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:23 a.m.
