Ironton police have arrested two men in connection with a burglary at the home of a woman who had died last week.
Jacob Jenkins, 20, of 610 Washington St., Coal Grove, was charged with burglary and a parole violation. William D. French, 32, of 1577 County Road 52, Ironton, was charged with complicity to burglary.
Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said Monday an Ironton resident called the police department and said she had gone to her late mother’s house in the 500 block of Oak Street and thought she heard people running away from the residence.
She then noticed property missing. The woman told police she had buried her mother earlier that day.
The investigation not only led to the arrest of the two men but also the recovery of some of the items that were stolen, Carey said.
“Charges will be sought on other individuals believed to have participated in the incident,” Carey said.
Capt. Joe Ross, Sgt. Brian Pauley, and Officer Larry Large responded and led the investigation.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Coal Grove Police Department, Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and Lawrence County Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation.
