Store will lease old CVS building

Ironton’s Dollar General store is planning to move. The Dollar General at 103 S. Third St. will move to another building on South Third Street, where CVS used to be.

Emily Weiss, media relations manager for the company, said the store plans to move sometime this summer.

“We’re always evaluating our stores about (to find) better ways of serving our customers,” Weiss said. “The current space has 10,000 square feet and the new one will be 14,000 square feet. It will provide a fresher layout and some of the highlights will include coolers near the front of the store, seasonal products in the center and more visual department signage.”

The building has been empty since CVS moved from it in October 2010.

All of the store’s employees will be transferred to the new location, which will be leased, she said. The store is planning a grand opening celebration she said.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Weiss said. “I think the customers will enjoy the new space and we look forward to continuing to serve our customers in Ironton.”
