Andy Holtzapfel kept it in-house.

Following former Ironton Fighting Tigers’ teammate Nathan Kerns, Holtzapfel won the Tri-State Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year award for the 16-18 age division.

Kerns — now a member of the Marshall Thundering Herd golf team — won the award each of the past three years in the 16-18 age group.

Holtzapfel shot a 77 to win the first flight of the TSJGT Guyan Country Club stop last Friday to wrap up the top player honor.

Holtzapfel — who will be a senior for Ironton this fall — was joined by Jonathon Lester (13-15 age group) and Mitchell McFarland (10-12 division) as the TSJGT top players.

Ironton begins its regular season at 9 a.m. Monday with the annual Ironton Invitational at the Ironton Country Club.
