$50K in upgrades planned this year
The Lawrence County Fair Board has gotten a community boost in paying for upkeep at the fairgrounds in Proctorville.
The second annual Doug Clark Memorial Spaghetti Dinner at Fairland Middle School netted $9,000 from the 152 people who attended the May 25 event.
“This mainly goes to upkeep,” Fair Board President Freddie Hayes Jr., said.
The dinner is in memory of the late Doug Clark, who for years served as fair board president and was a constant presence at the fair each year. Clark died in 2009.
“I hope this continues to grow every year,” his widow, Debbie Clark said.
Meanwhile, the board is in the process of upgrading some fair facilities and plans to spend $50,000 this year on improvements. Hayes said if Clark were here he would certainly approve.
“He was involved in it for years and a lot of things he talked to me about doing we’re doing now.”
