Besides hearing the first reading of an ordinance that would award an approximately $1.1 million bid to Southern Ohio Trenching for the construction of a water meter replacement project, the Ironton City Council also conducted the following business at its regular meeting Thursday:

• Heard from Councilwoman Beth Rist who said she had talked with a business that has expressed an interest in opening a new location. She invited the business to consider Ironton as a potential location, she said.

• Heard the first reading of an ordinance that would amend one of the city’s parking ordinances

• Passed an ordinance directing reimbursement to Bill and Phyllis Spanner of Ora Richey Road for the cost of removing trees from the city’s right-of-way

• Passed an ordinance amending the city’s annual operating budget. The budget has been changed to reflect income tax refunds, Finance Director Kristen Martin said.

• Passed an ordinance authorizing the mayor to convey a piece of property to the State of Ohio. The property is around a bridge on Lawrence Street. Construction is planned for next year to elevate the bridge.

• Passed an ordinance authorizing the Friends of Ironton to transfer the Splash Park to the City of Ironton

• Passed an ordinance approving then and now certificates in excess of $3,000 for the month of May. Councilman Dave Frazer voted against this ordinance.
