School-supply event needs helping hands

Most students are willing and able to learn when put in a healthy and productive environment, but they also need the necessary foundation.
That is where the Tools 4 School program comes in.
Now in its seventh year, the iniative put together by St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironton continues to be a tremendous asset for Lawrence County families who would otherwise struggle to provide their children with the necessary school supplies each year.
Last year the Tools 4 School program distributed approximately 2,000 backpacks filled with donated supplies.
This would not be possible without the support of the community, businesses and other charitable organizations. But the church congregation isn’t focused on the past, instead it’s looking towards the future.
And that is where they need even more community support to sustain a program that continues to grow in importance. Although school supplies may not directly educate children, having all the tools you need makes all the difference in the world.
A variety of supplies are needed and the church accepts items and monetary donations, as well as anyone who wants to lend a hand during the late summer distribution.

Arming our youth with the tools they need to succeed is an important part of the process. Growing up in today’s society is hard enough as it is. We all have to do our part to pave the way toward success.
