IRONTON — Hank Haller, a 2003 inductee into the International Polka Association’s Polka Hall of Fame, will headline Ironton’s annual Oktoberfest next weekend with a pair of performances showcasing his award-winning German-style polkas.
Hailing from the suburbs of Cleveland, Haller is also a Grammy-nominated artist who in 1987 was nominated along with his band, the Bavarians, for Best Polka Album for “Thank You Dear and Give Her Roses.”
Haller, along with Hamilton, Ohio-based Franz Klaber and the Klaberheads, will headline the two-day showcase of German and Bavarian food, fun and drink organized by the Friends of Ironton. Along with live music, there will be vendors and inflatables.
The Oktoberfest festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10 from noon to 11 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 11 from noon to 6 p.m. As in previous years, the event will be located on the parking lots at Second and Vernon streets.
Haller will perform on Saturday from 3-7:30 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 2:45 p.m. Klaber will take the stage immediately following Haller both days.
In keeping with tradition, the Ironton Oktoberfest will again hold the Tri-State’s “Largest Tailgate Party” with showing of the Ohio State-Wisconsin football game on television.
Oktoberfest is just one of several events the Friends of Ironton plans every year. Along with the Bavarian festival every October, Friends of Ironton organizes the city’s Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament every June and Rally on the River every August.
