4th quarter proves downfall as Flyers fall short in upset bid

The St. Joseph Flyers kept hanging around, looking to pull off the upset.

But the Beaver Eastern Eagles burst that bubble in the fourth quarter as they pulled away to a 68-51 win on Saturday.

Eastern (9-2) took a 13-10 first quarter lead as Boston Webb got 6 points and Tucker Leist connected on a 3-pointer.

Landon “Rocky” Rowe had 4 points as 4 different Flyers scored.

Each team had 14 points in the second quarter and the Eagles led 27-24 at the break.

Wesley Neal scored 5 pointers and Rowe hit a trifecta and scored another 5 points for the Flyers.

Eastern got 5 points from Webb and 4 from Isaac Weaver.

The Eagles inched further ahead in the third quarter to go up 49-42 as Leist hit a pair of 3-pointers and he had 8 points while Cade Leist, Declan Davis and Webb all had 4 points.

Neal scored 9 points while Aiden Deborde hit a 3-pointer and got 5 points for the Flyers.

The fourth quarter proved to be the downfall for the Flyers as they managed just 9 points and were outscored by 10 points.

Webb nailed a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points, Sherman Salisbury hit a trey and both Tucker Leist and Aiden Werner scored 4 points.

Neal had 4 of the Flyers’ points.

Neal finished the game with a double-double as he scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He also had 2 assists.

Rowe had a strong game as well with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

Eastern was led by Webb with 23 points and Tucker Leist with 17.
