Flyers can’t overcome Northwest, Armbrister

McDERMOTT — It turns out the center for the Northwest Mohawks is the center of attention.
Northwest’s 6-2, 280-pound center Aiden Armbrister scored a game-high 22 points as the Mohawks got past the St. Joseph Flyers 51-38 on Friday.
Landon “Rocky” Rowe had a solid all-around game for the Flyers (1-1). The senior scored 15 points, hit a pair of 3-pointers, had 4 rebounds and 5 steals.
Aiden Deborde and Zane “Z-Man” Dressel had 3 rebounds each and Eli Whaley had a pair of assists.
Armbrister scored 5 points in the first quarter to give Northwest a scant 9-8 lead.
Wesley Neal, Deborde and Carson Willis all had baskets for the Flyers.
The scoring was very slow in the second quarter as Brycen Montavon hit a 3-pointer and the Mohawks outscored St. Joseph 9-2 for an 18-10 halftime lead.
Neal had the lone basket for the Flyers.
The scoring picked up in the third quarter as each team got 15 points.
Armbrister scored 6 points, Brenden Vice 4 and Ethan Crabtree hit a 3-pointer for Northwest.
Rowe carried the Flyers in the third quarter as he hit a trifecta and scored 10 points.
The Mohawks pulled away in the fourth quarter as Armbrister scored 8 points and Ivan Ealey knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
Rowe scored 6 more points and Deborde had a trey in the quarter for the Flyers.
