The Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade mural on the floodwalls has been vandalized with spray paint and by a permenant marker and the Ironton Police are looking for the one responsible.

It helps that the graffiti “artist” was nice enough to leave clues as to their identity.

On the unpainted part of the floodwall was spray painted with “SJ (hearts) CM,” “CM+SJ” and “Scott+Chels!” On the mural, a heart with “S+C” was spray painted on it and then in the American Flag, “Scott+Chelsey.” “I (heart) You and a date of “10-12-24” was written in marker.

The mural was originally painted by Patty Shively in 2006. In 2017, Tracy McKenzie, owner of Extreme Kustom Paint, repainted it after a decade of fading.

IPD detective Captain Brian Pauley said they became aware of the graffiti on Friday morning.

“We are working on it and I think we are getting close to who it may be,” he said. “We tried to make contact with who we think it is early this morning but we couldn’t get anyone to come to the door. We are still trying to track them down.”
