FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Symmes Valley Vikings did most of their work early.

The Vikings built a 42-0 halftime lead and downed the Green Bobcats 42-12 in a Southern Ohio Conference 1 on Saturday.

The Vikings took an 8-0 lead to their first possession of the game as Dylan Urban hit Gradee Holland with a swing pass and he powered his way into the end zone.

Randy Adkins ran for the conversion and it was 8-0 at 8:55 of the first quarter.

Bronx Carpenter picked off a pass at the 47 that led to a 20-yard scoring run by Asher Maynard with 5:14 left in the quarter and it was 14-0.

Will Jones took a swing pass from Carpenter and raced 34 yards to the 3-yard line. Jones scored on the next play and the lead was 20-0 with 2:29 left in the quarter.

Urban found himself on the opposite end of a pass as he caught a 7-yard toss from Carpenter on the first play of the second quarter and a touchdown.

Adkins ran for the conversion and it was 28-0 with 11;53 on the clock.

The Vikings had another scoring drive after a punt. Adkins capped the drive with a 4-yard run. Maynard threw a two-point conversion to Logan Simpkins on the conversion play and it was 36-0.

Symmes Valley’s final score was courtesy of the defense as Jackson Fields picked up a fumble and ran it back 27 yards with 5:10 left in the half. The conversion kick failed).

Green (1-5, 0-1) used a pair of long runs to score in the second half.

Riley Cunningham ran through the Vikings’ defense for 70 yards and a touchdown with 6:21 on the third quarter clock.

Blake Smith copied his teammate as he turned the corner, stiff-armed a defender and ran 59 yards for a touchdown with 7:28 to play.

The Vikings ran for 112 yards with Adkins getting 30 yards on 5 carries and Jones 24 yards on 4 attempts. Urban and Carpenter split the passing duties for 114 yards passing to give Symmes Valley 226 total yards.

The Bobcats had 142 yards rushing but the Vikings held Green to minus 5 yards passing and the total yards was 137.

On Friday, Symmes Valley entertains Beaver Eastern in an SOC-1 showdown for first place.

Green visits Portsmouth Notre Dame on Saturday.
