Flyers advance to D3 district golf tourney

PIKETON — Last season, the St. Joseph Flyers sent a pair of golfers to the district tournament.

This season, they are sending the whole team.

The Flyers finished fifth in the Division 3 sectional golf tournament held Wednesday at Big Beaver Creek Golf Course.

Reedsville Eastern won the tournament with a 319 team score followed by Waterford at 324, Portsmouth West 342, South Webster 351 and St. Joseph posted a 356 total, four shots ahead of Portsmouth Clay.

The top 5 teams and top 5 individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the district tournament to be held Monday at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club.

Senior Sam Walker — who was one of the individual district qualifiers for the Flyers last season  led St. Joseph with identical rounds of 40 as he carded a score of 80.

Sophomore Jadyn Fields shot two rounds of 45s as he had a 90 total, freshman Christopher Phillips shot rounds of 45-46 for a 91, freshman Peyton Ford had a 95 score as he shot 48 and 47 while junior Carson Williams went 54-52 for a 106 score.

The Rock Hill Redmen finished 7th as a team led by junior Jaxson Bridenthal with an 83 on rounds of 41-42. Junior Ben Simpson was at 87 as he went 44-43, freshman Carson Medinger shot 49-47 for a 96 score, sophomore Rylan Barker had identical rounds of 49 for a 98 total, and sophomore Gavin Brooks shot a 105 on rounds of 49-56.

The Symmes Valley Vikings tied Belpre for 9th place as they shot a 408 team score led by sophomore Josh Gipson with an 84 on rounds of 50 and 44.

Senior Levi Castle went 50-48 for a 98 total, junior Kaiden Ellison was at 106 as he shot 49-57 and junior Noah Hutchinson went 62-58 for a 120 score.

The Green Bobcats were 13th with a 478 team total led by junior Brennan Renison with a 98 on rounds of 52-46.

FreshmanReagan Ibarra shot 54-51 for a 105 score, senior Tyler Gammon went 60-58 for 118 and junior Uriah Satterfield finished at 157 on rounds of 77-80.
