COLUMBUS — To recognize the efforts made by parents, families and child support professionals to support the well-being of children across Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted have declared August “Child Support Awareness Month” and are asking the public to wear green on Wednesday in support.
Ohio’s child support program, supervised by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), serves nearly 643,000 children statewide.
“Last year in Ohio we were able to establish legal paternity for 52,000 children,” said ODJFS Director Matt Damschroder. “Even if the parents live apart, a child who has the love and support from both parents does better now and in the future.”
The ODJFS Office of Child Support establishes policies and guidelines for the state’s county child support enforcement agencies, which administer cases locally. The office also processes support payments for the state’s child support program.
“Our website contains a wealth of information, including a child support calculator and guidance on how to change or end a support order,” Damschroder said. “You can also download the ODJFS Child Support mobile app, which gives you access to your case information, allows you to make or receive electronic payments and has other convenient features.”
