Staff report
An event to inspire the next generation of girls to become leaders in Lawrence County will take place in August.
Called “InspiHER Retreat: Empowering Young Girls in Lawrence County,” the program is for girls entering grades 5 through 8 and will take place at the South Point middle school on Aug. 10. It is free for the participants.
We are so excited to bring this event to Lawrence County,” said Gretta Taylor, the student services coordinator at the Lawrence County Educational Services Center. “The InspiHER Retreat is a unique event aimed at fostering self-confidence, leadership skills and personal growth among young girls in Lawrence County and the surrounding areas.”
The retreat is free thanks to sponsorship from the Lawrence County Educational Service Center Marathon Oil and KDMC.
Taylor said the sponsorships ensure that every girl has the opportunity to benefit from this enriching experience.
Participants will engage in a variety of activities designed to inspire and empower them, including interactive workshops, team-building exercises, and motivational talks from dynamic speakers.
The retreat will also provide a supportive environment for girls to connect with peers, share their experiences and build lasting friendships. The day includes a light breakfast, lunch, an event T-shirt, the book “Girls Guide to Loving Yourself” by Jenn Higgins, yoga mat, a journal, and a swag bag filled with inspiring resources.
Taylor said they are putting out a call for high schoolers to be mentors at this event.
“We are also seeking enthusiastic mentors who are currently in grades 10 through 12 to join us in making this retreat a memorable experience for all participants,” she said. “As a mentor, you’ll have the chance to guide, support, and inspire the younger girls while developing your own leadership skills. It’s a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in your community and help shape the leaders of tomorrow.”
