SOUTH POINT — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene at the Sam’s Club store after a bomb threat was called in Friday morning.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless said that the caller with a male voice phoned in a threat that a bomb was in the store around 11:25 a.m.
Employees and customers were evacuated from the store and deputies are sweeping the store looking for a bomb. The Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department is also on the scene and bomb sniffing dogs are on their way from Columbus.
“We take every threat seriously,” Lawless said. “We haven’t found an explosive device, however, we are doing our due diligence and sweeping the building.”
Lawless added that investigators are working on back tracing the phone call in an effort to identify the caller.
Anyone with information about the case can call the sheriff’s office at 740-532-3525.
