The aim of Fairland High School’s Beta Club is to teach students the value of community service.
And that was on display last week, when dozens of students from the group organized and assisted with the Senior Prom at the neighboring Lawrence County Senior Center in Rome Township.
This is the second year the group has done this, helping the seniors and their families to have a great time and build memories to treasure.
And it is the second in a partnership with the center. Earlier this year, the students organized a Senior Olympics for the facility.
The Beta Club takes part in a number of community activities, such as working with a nearby street ministry or taking underprivileged children shopping at Christmas, through a grant they successfully apply for through United Way of the River Cities Big Cover Up program.
The fruits of their work are evident in the positivity they have spread to the community and the skills they learn will serve them well in life.
We commend teacher Stephanie Beelen for her job helming this program and thank the students for all they have done.
