Janie Smith
Feb. 20,1952–Dec. 21, 2023
Our beloved “Janie”, age 71, passed peacefully to be with our Lord on Dec. 21, 2023.
Janie was born in Portsmouth on Feb. 20,1952 to parents John and Marie (Culp) Kingery.
She became a graduate Minford High School, attended welding school, and later married the late Larry L. Fannin, originally of Portsmouth.
Janie’s proudest accomplishment was raising her son, Kyle (Fannin), whom she loved immeasurably. Simple words could never begin to express how much her “Cow-Bird” meant to her, and her mother’s love will be incredibly missed.
During her lifetime, Janie had an impressive work repertoire ranging from working at the A Plant, Group W cable company and Marathon Petroleum, where she met Thomas Smith of Ironton. Janie and Tom hit it off and embarked on a short career of over the road trucking, where they could travel and spend time together.
Janie and Tom were united in marriage and made their home in Ironton.
Janie spent much of her time caring for others. In her free time, she loved spending time at her son Kyle’s farm. You could find her having a seat under the pine trees on a sunny day, laughing and relaxing with her family and enjoying the peaceful breeze.
She loved her Labrador, Moses, who she took everywhere and always shared her leftovers with. She was also proud of her beautifully manicured flower gardens, where she received Ironton’s “Yard of the Month” in June 2019.
Janie’s life was very much dedicated to God. She was a member of Church of the King in Ironton, where she was blessed to worship with so many of her loving friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom; beloved son, Kyle Courtland Fannin (Mary Beth); and stepchildren, Tommi and Meghan. She will be incredibly missed by her wonderful grandchildren that she loved dearly, Kylee Grace Fannin, Aiden Kade Fannin, Makenzie Alexis Colton, Kaylee Hopper, Kylie Ann Hopper, Caleb Hopper, Carson Palmer, Braeden Milar, Teagan Milar, Rowan Milar and Evan Milar.
She is also survived by her siblings, Vickie Sue Gilbert, Robin Elaine Kingery, Howard Kingery, Mike Kingery and Mackie Dale Kingery; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Hilda Faye Bradley, Norma Jean Champ, Roxanne Kingery Varney, Roger Dean, Rocky Dean, George Arnold, Estel Gary Kingery and John (Spears) Kingery.
At Janie’s request, no services will be held, but in her honor, we hope that everyone will carry on her kindness of loving and caring for others and enjoying all that this beautiful life has to offer.
Funeral services are under the direction of the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home.
