Sophia Jayde Barton

Sophia Jayde Barton, 3 months, of Ironton, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Huntington, W.Va. native was born Jan. 26, 2011, the daughter of Melissa Barton and Vanderbilt Massey. Mommy loves you very much and knows you are in heaven with Jesus.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three sisters, Isis Neal, Akeelya Neal, and Mya Barton, all of Ironton; maternal grandfather, Daniel P. Barton of Ironton; maternal grandmother, Connie Sue Pratt Smith of Ironton; paternal grandfather, Vanderbilt Massey Sr. of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great grandmother, Faye Pratt of Ironton; two aunts, Shellie and Gary Carrico of Ironton, and Alisha Smith of Columbus; three uncles, Shelton J. and Flora Chaffins of Germany, Daniel Barton, of Columbus and Andrew Massey of Ashland, Ky.; and a godmother: Kayla Carpenter of Ironton; She is also survived by Mike and Sherri Kincaid of Ironton, known as her “poppie” and “nonnie”; and a host of loving cousins, friends and family.

A celebration of life will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Strawn officiating. There will be a private visitation for close friends and family at the First Baptist Church of Ironton. At the family’s request, contributions can be made to “Sophia’s Place” which will be located in Little Blessings Tots to Teens Store, 206 S. Third St. Ironton that will be opening at the end of June. Donations may be sent to U.S. Bank, 2301 S. Third St., Ironton, c/o Sophia’s Place. All contributions will go to buy baby care supplies. “Sophia’s Place” is an area in the store that is all free to parents in need.
