The City of Ironton is planning to receive bids for the last part of its sewer relining and manhole rehabilitation project.
City-contracted engineers are preparing bids for the manhole rehabilitation part of its sewer project.
Mayor Rich Blankenship said a bid for this part of the project was awarded to FeeCorp, but the company’s product for the project did not meet the specifications, so the project stopped. The manhole rehabilitation process involves spraying the inside of the manholes so that water does not infiltrate them.
“We’re so close to finishing everything that it would be wise for us to go ahead and complete the entire project including the manholes at no additional costs,” Blankenship said. “We’re not asking for any additional money, we already have the money in place.”
The bidding process takes between six and eight weeks, at which time the Ironton City Council will award a bid, Blankenship said.
The manhole rehabilitation portion will not affect traffic as much as the sewer-relining project did, Blankenship said.
While the bidding process is underway, work on the sewer-relining part of the project will continue.
“It seems to me they’ve projected (to finish in) June,” Blankenship said. When the sewer-relining project is done, 60 miles of sewer will have been relined.
“This city needed this project in a major way and I’ll be glad to see it completed,” Blankenship said.
