PROCTORVILLE — Fortunately for the Fairland Dragons, Jon Baise knows how to hit a curveball.

Baise was the only Dragons’ hitter to have any success against Coal Grove Hornets’ pitcher Garrett Myers. Baise had three hits and drove in three runs as Fairland got past the Hornets 4-2 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“No could hit anything but Jon,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward. “(Myers) was throwing his curveball for strikes and we weren’t being very patient except for Baise. He did a nice job at the plate.”

Tanner Schenewark got the win as he allowed just four hits, struck out nine and walked one. Myers fanned four and walked four to go with his 3-hitter.

Fairland (7-6, 3-1) got a run in the first inning when Baise singled, stole second base and scored on two passed balls.

Alec Warner wand Corey Barker walked in the second inning and scored on a double by Baise as Fairland took a 3-0 lead.

Coal Grove (2-6, 0-4) got a run in the top of the fourth. Jake Murphy singled, stole second and third, and scored on Conor Markins’ ground out.

Fairland got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Schenewark walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a hit by Baise.

Murphy hit a leadoff home run in the sixth for the Hornets’ other run.
