The Lawrence County Health Department and Diabetes: A Family Matter are sponsoring “A Taste of Healthy Eating” on Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ohio University Southern in the Jim Mains Rotunda.
The purpose of this tasting is to show diabetics and everyone else that eating healthy can be tasteful and enjoyable. The cost of the tasting is $1 per person and proceeds will be used to continue the activity in the future.
If you have a low sugar, low fat, low salt, and low calorie recipe that you would like to serve for the tasting, please contact Maxine Lewis at the Lawrence County Health Department at 740-532-3962 or maxine.lewis@odh.ohio.gov. There is no cost to enter a dish. There will be three categories for dishes: main dish, side dish, and dessert. There will be a panel of judges for each category and a People’s Choice in each that will receive a prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
In addition to the tasting, there will also be health screenings and exhibits for diabetes related topics. Contributors will include: health screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol by Our Lady of Bellefonte Diabetes Education Center, Life Scan (glucose monitors), foot care (Dufore Chiropractic), massages (Ironton Park Avenue Chiropractic Center), nutrition education (Joslin Diabetes Center), and diabetes educational materials (Lawrence County Health Department and Diabetes: A Family Matter). A silent auction, for a variety of items, will be held with the proceeds to go for future events.
