PROCTORVILLE — A Chesapeake man must serve 30 hours of community service for the theft of items from Fruth Pharmacy in Proctorville and was placed on a year’s probation.

Clifford Stickler, 36, of Chesapeake, pleaded no contest in Lawrence County Municipal Court Friday on first-degree misdemeanor theft charges. Stickler was charged with taking hair clippers valued at $29.99 and thermometer valued at $11.99 from the drugstore on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Stickler “ was in and out of the store a few times. … seen with an item in his pocket,” the Proctorville police report states. “When confronted he laid the item on a shelf. It was a medical thermometer. He was told to bring any other item that he had already removed back to the store and he retrieved a set of hair clippers. He confessed to stealing the hair clippers and planning to steal the thermometer. … He was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.”

Stickler was already on probation with the Chesapeake-based court.

Joe Bailey of Huntington, W.Va., reported the theft of a silver Olympus camera module with power zoom, valued at $500 from a location in Proctorville. Bailey said that the theft occurred on Oct. 31 at 104 Chestnut St. He reported it on Friday, Nov. 13. A suspect was named, but police had not made contact.

Adam Edwards of Crown City reported an assault in the parking lot of the Kroger’s in Proctorville on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 2:10 p.m. He identified the suspect as someone he knew. Police have not made contact with the suspect.
