David Jerry Wagner, 79, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Jan. 11, 1932, the son of the late George and Laura Simones Wagner. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alberta Burks Wagner, whom he married Jan. 30, 1956.

Mr. Wagner was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army Korean Conflict. He was a retired school bus driver for the Rock Hill School District, where he enjoyed all the good group of kids and good group of parents for 28 years. He was a member of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Myron Wagner; and two sisters, Barbara Roach and Karen “June” Robinson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Wagner of Pine Grove and Terry and Rose Wagner of Columbus; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Danny and Fern Wagner of Hanging Rock and Jerry Wagner of Ironton; brother-in-law, Paul Roach of Ironton; former daughter-in-law, Beth Walbright of Ironton; four grandchildren, David Wagner, Aaron Wagner, Travis Wagner and Felicia McGinnis, all of Columbus; and loving 11 great grandchildren, all of Columbus.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with minister George Cade officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery Veterans Section with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
