Richard E. Holtzapfel

Richard E. Holtzapfel, 68, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Ironton native was born April 6, 1942, the son of the late Otto and Mary Louise Fillgrove Holtzapfel. He is survived by his wife Wanda Lawson Holtzapfel whom he married June 23, 1962.

Mr. Holtzapfel was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph High School, and a retired supervisor of the car shop at CSX Railroad. He was also a member of St. Lawrence O’ Toole Catholic Church and past Exhalted Ruler of the Elk’s Lodge #177.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard Holtzapfel Jr. and his companion Connie Queen of Ashland, Ky and Scott and Kristy Holtzapfel of Raceland, Ky; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and John David Willis of Ironton; three sisters, Marianne Wissman of Ironton, Eleanor Rowe of Indianapolis, Ind. and Katy Lutz of Ironton; and seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Peyton and Jakob Holtzapfel and Cole, Clay, Chase and Carson Willis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth Street, Ironton. A Rosary service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
