The Lawrence County Board of Elections has announced practices in place for Tuesday’s Ohio primary out of caution due to the state of emergency regarding the coronavirus.

Voting machines will be cleaned according to CDC and machine manufacturer best practices between each voter by a polling worker. The polling worker will clean each machine by spraying isopropyl alcohol on the machine and cleaning it with a microfiber towel.

Qtips will be provided to each voter that wishes to not touch the actual voting machine screen. The qtips will be disposed of after a single use. The board of elections said “a little common sense Lawrence County engineering goes a long way at times!”

If voters wish to not exchange the form of identification they are using to check in at their polling location, voters should hold the form of identification so the poll worker can verify the form of identification with voter registration rolls. The poll books (resembling an iPad) will be cleaned by the poll workers between each voter as described above with isopropyl alcohol.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting lasts until 2 p.m. at the courthouse in Ironton as well.
