Marjorie McKee

Oct. 18, 1950–March 5, 2020

Marjorie Milana McKee, 69, of South Point, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

She was born Oct. 18, 1950 in Ashland, Kentucky, the fourth child of the late Rufus P. McKee and Ruth Keene McKee.

The family resided in Catlettsburg and she graduated from Catlettsburg High School. She attended Ashland Community College and earned advanced degrees at both Morehead State University and Marshall University.

Marjorie was a music instructor in Greenbrier County, West Virginia and the South Point Local Schools until she retired.

Throughout her life, Marjorie participated in a number of bands, including Catlettsburg High School Band; Morehead State University Symphony Band, Concert Band and Marching Bands, The Huntington Symphonic Band and The Brass Band of the Tri-State in Ashland, Kentucky. She had an especially memorable experience participating in the Nixon inauguration parade.

In addition, she performed vocally in the Community Choir and Marshall Choral Union and was a chorister in the church choirs of Calvary Episcopal in Ashland, Kentucky and St. John’s Episcopal in Huntington, West Virginia.

She also served as children choir master at Calvary Episcopal in Ashland, Kentucky as well as choir master at St. James Episcopal in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Marjorie was a member of St. John’s Episcopal in Huntington, West Virginia and a life-time member of the Order of the Daughter of the King, Chapter in both Kentucky and West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her a sister, Ruth June McKee; a nephew, David Brian McKee and a sister-in-law, W. Jeanette Tarpley.

She is survived by her sister, Teresa S. McKee; a brother, Rufus E. McKee; a niece, Angela G. McKee (Thomas) Ratliff; a great-nephew, Jacob Thomas (Hannah) Ratliff and a great-niece, Emily Nicole Ratliff. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens, Ashland, Kentucky. Friends may visit 6–8 p.m. Monday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.

Ralph Sierer

Jan. 6, 1960–March 5, 2020

Ralph Edward “Rusty” Sierer, 60, of Chesapeake, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 6, 1960 to the late Emerson Sug Sierer, Sr. and the late Helen Bridges Cowell.

Rusty lived most of his life in Fairbanks, Alaska, returning to Lawrence County in 2005. He loved people, music of all kinds and could be found with his CD player and headset on almost all the time. He loved riding his four-wheel ATV and his John Deere tractor, which he drove in Alaska. Rusty was a friendly, kind-hearted person who loved to talk to everyone. He never met a stranger, was hard-working and would help anyone he could.

He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed watching wrestling.

He would visit his sister-in-law and nephew on weekends whenever he could.

He overcame many adversities and accomplished numerous things while living a happy and full life.

He was surrounded by so many at ResCare that loved him dearly, as did his family.

In addition to his parents, Rusty is preceded in death by stepfather, Merlin Cowell; brothers: Tim Sierer, Steve Sierer, Terry Sierer and Philip Sierer; and sister, Linda Sierer.

He is survived by brothers, Matthew Sierer and Rick (Ramona) Sierer; sister, Sue Sierer O’Bryan; sisters-in-law, Martha June Sierer and Genney Boley; many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be noon on Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Brittany Alderson

Brittany M. Henson Alderson, 25, of Scott Depot, West Virginia, died on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020.

Delores Hurst

Sept. 20, 1943–March 4, 2020

Delores Evelyn Wilson Hurst, 76, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Bridgeport Nursing Center in Portsmouth. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 20, 1943 to the late Henry and Betty Morton Wilson. She married her husband, Leo Hurst, in May 1988.

Delores graduated from Ironton High School and was a dispatcher for Ford Brothers, Lewis Transmissions and Liquid Transmissions for thirty years. She loved to stay on the move and really enjoyed camping and traveling. She lived in Cincinnati for 30 years before returning to the Tri-State in 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Hurst, who passed away in 2014; and a sister, Barbara White, who passed away in 2001.

She is survived by a sister, Susan Sanders, of Ironton; a brother, Henry “Gene” Wilson (Karen), of Ironton; nephews, Greg White, Andrew Sanders and Aaron Sanders, all of Ironton; and a niece, Natalie Wilson, of Athens.

Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
