ASHLAND, Ky. — Garland F. Mowery, 93, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Bay Front Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was born March 31, 1917, in Greenup County, Ky., the son of the late Alva and Annie Mowery. He was a 1935 graduate of Wurtland High School. He was a veteran in the United States Army and served in World War II. He went on to work at C&O Railroad for 30 years where he retired in 1977. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife: Thelma Mowery; four brothers: Earl, Alva Jr., Bob, and Jimmy Lee Mowery; and two sisters: Fern Vance and Carrie Kelly.

Garland is survived by his wife, Margaret Mowery of Ashland, Ky., his stepmother, Nellie Johnson, three sons: Greg (Linda Adkins) Mowery, Tom Mowery ,and Terry (Connie) Mowery all of Ironton; one sister: Gerri Martin of Ironton; five grandchildren: Becky (Rocky) Jones, Christy (Scott) Gillenwater, Joseph Mowery, Robert (Heather) Mowery, and Lori (Joe) Mowery; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, Ironton. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home Friday. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.tracybrammerfh.com.
