Panthers romp through Kalivoda Showcase

TORONTO — Someone check that one spark plug.
The Chesapeake Panthers’ offense that has been a scoring machine all season missed on one cylinder on Friday but they ran smooth the rest of the way in a 68-58 win over the Shenandoah Zeps in the Kalivoda Showcase on Friday at Toronto High School.
The Panthers overcame a 9-point third quarter and a 32-point performance by the Zeps’ Christian Duniver to stay unbeaten.
Austin Jackson had 8 points and Levi Blankenship scored 7 as he and Trent Dearth hit 3-pointers and the Panthers finished the first quarter tied 20-all.
Duniver had 11 points including a 3-poitner and Colby Famer made two 3-pointers to keep the Zeps even.
The second quarter proved to be the decisive part of the game as Chesapeake (5-0) outscored the Zeps 21-6 to take a 41-26 halftime lead.
Blankenship hit another 3-pointers and scored 9 points white Ethan Taylor and Nathan Cox added 3-pointers.
Duniver had two 3-pointers for all of Shenandoah’s scoring.
The Panthers struggled in the third quarter by scoring only 9 points — 6 by Josh Cox — and Duniver hit a 3-poitner and scored 9 points and Tyce Devolid had 6 points to get the Zeps within 50-47.
But the Panthers picked up the offense once again in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Zeps 18-11.
Travis Grim and Blankenship scored 5 points each while Nathan Cox and Dearth had 4 each
Dunver had 6 points including 4-of-4 at the foul line while Dayton Hill added 5 points.
Blankenship had a big game for the Panthers with 23 points with Grim adding 11. Jackson Dearth and Josh Cox all had 8 points.
Hill was the only other Zeps’ player in double figures with 10.

TORONTO — The Chesapeake Panthers must be working on a points system this season.
The points system has nothing to do with grades but rather how many points can the Panthers score.
Chesapeake has not scored less than 68 points in a game as they improved to 6-0 with a 73-50 rout of the host Toronto Red Knights 73-50 on Saturday in the Kalivoda Showcase.
Trent Dearth had a season-high 18 points to pace four players in double figures for the Panthers (7-0).
Levi Blankenship scored 12 points, Travis Grim had 11 and Dilen Caldwell added 10 points for Chesapeake.
Toronto (4-5) was led by Shane Keenan with 14 points.
Blankenship had 5 points and both Grim and Dearth 4 pints as the Panthers took a 13-8 first quarter lead.
The points system really kicked into gear in the second quarter as the Panthers outscored the Red Knights 26-11 to take a 39-19 halftime cushion.
Caldwell had 8 of his points including a pair of 3-pointers, Dearth got a trey and scored 5 points and Grim also had 5 points as he went 3-for-3 at the foul line.
The Panthers didn’t slow down in the third quarter as Dearth and Blankenship each hit 3-pointers, Death scored 7 points and Ethan Taylor got 5 and the lead ballooned to 58-29.
Six different players scored in the fourth quarter for the Panthers.
Keenan scored 7 points and Brandt Reeves 6 in the quarter for Toronto.
Chesapeake hosts Coal Grove on Friday.
