COLUMBUS — The Fairland Dragons were at the top of their game and as a result ended up on top of their game.
The Dragons were shot 57 percent from the field including 46 percent from 3-point range and were 4-of-5 at the foul line as they beat the Bishop Watterson Eagles 50-43 at the Whitehall-Yearling Tournament on Friday.
Aiden Porter scored 16 points to go with 3 assists and 4 steals as he was named the Dragons’ player of the game.
Jacob Polcyn had 10 points and 4 rebounds while Clayton Thomas added 10 points for Fairland (7-1).
Watterson (1-7) was led by Chris Crane with 11 points and Mike Bruzzese with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
The Dragons jumped on top 16-7 in the first quarter as Thomas and Porter each hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points while Polcyn added two baskets.
The lead was 30-20 at the half as Porter hit another 3-pointer and converted a 3-point play while Thomas also had a trey.
Noah Gruver had 4 of his 9 points in the quarter for the Eagles.
Fairland’s offense went cold in the third quarter with just 5 points allowing Watterson to cut the deficit to just 35-33. Bruzzese and Crane combined for 9 points in the quarter.
But Porter and Polcyn had 4 points each in the fourth quarter as the Dragons outscored the Eagles 15-10 to get the win.
