MARIETTA — Just when the Fairland Lady Dragons needed their offense the most, it went into hiding.
The Lady Dragons battled South Charleston into overtime but could only score 2 points in the extra four minutes as they lost a 63-55 heartbreaker to the Lady Black Eagles at Marietta College on Friday.
Harlie Lyons returned to the Fairland lineup and scored 14 points including their only basket in overtime. Jenna Stone hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points and Tomi Hinkle also had 13 points.
Myra Cuffee scored 17 points, Maliha Witten 15 and Kyara Terrell 11 for the Lady Black Eagles (4-2).
Lyons hit a pair of 3-pointers and Hinkle had 6 points as Fairland went up 16-10 in the first quarter.
South Charleston rallied to get within 25-24 at the half as Cuffee scored 8 points and Daviya Leggett got her only 4 points of the game.
The Lady Dragons opened up a 40-32 lead after three quarters as Stone scored 7 points and Jessica King had 6 of her 8 points.
The Lady Black Eagles outscored Fairland 21-13 in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Witten and Cuffee scored 7 points each and Terrell had 4 points to spark the rally. Hinkle and Lyons scored 4 each for Fairland.
But the Lady Black Eagles were 7-of-9 from the foul line in overtime and Genevieve Potter hit a 3-pointer to key the win.
Fairland played Fort Frye on Saturday.
