COAL GROVE — The Symmes Valley Vikings’ performance was looking a little down, so Corey Brown picked it up.
Brown scored a career-high 11 points and also had a couple of steals to lead the Vikings to a 55-45 win over the Coal Grove Hornets Saturday.
“We didn’t play real well. We turned it over too much,” said Vikings’ coach Jerome Fuller. “We got a little boost from Corey Brown. He has the potential to help us.”
Josh Craft had 14 points to top the Vikings’ scoring. Luke Taylor had 22 rebounds while Ryan Stanley added eight points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
Devin Monnier scored 19 points — 13 in the fourth quarter — and Jacob Pauley added 10 for the Hornets (2-11).
Symmes Valley (9-3) was just 19 of 53 from the field for 35.8 percent but managed to convert 17 of 26 free throw attempts.
The defense held Coal Grove to just two points in the first quarter as the Vikings led 15-2.
The lead was 26-15 at the half as Craft scored five points in the second quarter.
Brown had five points in the third quarter as the Vikings opened up 41-26 lead. They led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter before Fuller emptied his bench.
