Event serves veterans

Today is the Giving Back to Veterans Day event in downtown Ironton at Farmers Market Square on Second Street.
This is the third year for the event, put on by Kim Maynard, a registered nurse who started it as a way to honor all the veterans who had been her clients over the years. She enjoyed their stories and wanted to give back to the military men and women.
This is not just an event to honor veterans, although that is a big part of it.
An important part of this event is the number of agencies that will have booths set up to let veterans know what services are available to them because they served our country.
Maybe veterans don’t know what is readily available to them because they haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Lawrence County Veterans Services or have talked to the staff at the VA in Huntington or Veteran’s Service at Ohio University Southern.
So, we invite all veterans to stop by the event, which runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. today.
Have some soup beans, play a game of corn hole and see what services can help you.
