About 80 people showed up at First Nazarene Church in Ironton on Saturday to help benefit Harvest for the Hungry food pantry.

The church was the site of the annual silent auction and dinner fundraiser for the panty.

Prodded by volunteer Lois Terkhorn, who was dressed in her usual pig costume, attendees placed bids on items such as autographed Reba McEntire CDs, Oak Ridge Boys memorabilia, sports items, deserts, crafts and more.

Music for the event was provided by Sasha Colette, a local singer songwriter from Olive Hill.

During 2017 the pantry, located at 120 N. Fifth St., served over 17,000 people, which included 5,738 families, 2,785 senior citizens, 5,147 children and 9,071 other adults.

Each year, the pantry prepares Thanksgiving meal packages for needy families.

Porter said the sign up for those in need for the holiday begins in October.

Director Diane Porter said the next project the pantry will be involved in is a call for donations for Thanksgiving turkeys.  Donations to the pantry can be sent via Terkhorn at 1747 Kevin St., Ironton, OH 45638 or directly to the pantry at Harvest for the Hungry, 120 N. Fifth St., Ironton, OH 45638.

The pantry is also benefitted by Nancy’s Nook, a consignment shop located at 106 N. Third St., where proceeds go the effort.
