RUSSELL, KENTUCKY — There will be lane restrictions and traffic stoppages on U.S. 23 in Russell, Kentucky just south of the Oakley C. Collins Bridge starting Tuesday.
The location is about a half mile from the bridge towards Ashland, Kentucky.
Contractors will be removing potential slide material from the hillside above the highway and the Kentucky Department of Highways will be reduce traffic on U.S. 23 to one lane in both directions for up to four day. Traffic could be stopped at times, which could affect bridge traffic.
“We don’t expect anything but brief delays,” said KDT spokesperson Allen Blair.
The KDT warns that due to the high volume of traffic on U.S. 23 – as many as 21,000 vehicles a day use the highway in that area – motorists should seek alternate routes or be prepared for lengthy delays.
Roadwork schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
