Greatness is within all of us

Do you have the potential for greatness? There is a very easy question to answer.

Yes. Yes, you do.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luthur King Jr. said, “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.”

This is one of the truest quotes that has ever been spoken. Everyone has the ability to achieve greatness because everyone has the ability to serve.

You may say, “I am unable to help, I would probably make things worse.”

To that, I would have to disagree. An act of service does not have to be a grand public gesture. Most times, it is the smallest act that makes the biggest difference.

It reminds me of a story I heard from Jerilynn Collette, of Burnsville, Minnesota.

“When my husband died unexpectedly, a coworker took me under her wing,” she said. “Every week, for an entire year, she would send me a card saying ‘Just Thinking of You’ or ‘Hang in There.’ She saved my life.”

Something as small and simple as sending a card made a world of difference.

We all have the ability to make a positive difference and, in most cases, it will go unnoticed.

It could be buying someone a meal, helping them to their car, carrying their groceries or just sitting with a friend who is going through a rough patch.

All it takes to do good in this world is an open mind and a willing heart, putting service above self and integrity above reproach.

If you see a need, take action. You could very well be the miracle that someone needs.
