AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings had a little going away gift for their three seniors.
A win.
The Lady Vikings beat the Eastern Lady Eagles 7-2 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday to celebrate senior night for Ericca Ross, Kara Saunders and Sarah Kingery.
“It was a nice win for our three seniors. All three of them have been four-year starters and have contributed to the softball program,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
Kingery did her part to make it a good day for the seniors. She pitched a four-hitter, struck out five and walked just one. Neither run was earned.
Ross also has a good game by going 2-3 as the Lady Vikings had eight hits.
The game was scoreless until the fourth when both teams scored a pair of runs.
Olivia Hatfield singled and an out later the Lady Vikings made two errors. After a passed ball, a fielder’s choice scored a run and a throwing error scored the second run.
Symmes Valley came right back as Emily Estep doubled, Ross singled and stole second and Payton Hunter had a two-run single.
The Lady Vikings then scored five runs in the sixth inning.
Ross singled, Hunter was safe on a fielder’s choice and Emily Sharp reached on an error to score courtesy runner Maggie Wise. Rachael Hayes doubled for two more runs.
Morgan Jenkins singled in a run and Kingery doubled in the final two runs.
