Mr. Richard David Cardwell, 55, of Franklin, Kentucky, died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
A native of Ironton, he was the son of the late Chester Cardwell and Elizabeth Lawless Cardwell. He was a graduate of Ironton High School. He received a B.A. degree from The Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences and a Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School (Columbus).
Throughout his career he specialized in construction law, particularly publicly-funded projects. He was the construction attorney for the construction/renovation of his alma mater, Ironton High School, which was a project dear to his heart.
He was a partner with Peck, Shaffer and Williams in Cincinnati for many years. At the time of his retirement, he was the attorney for the Tennessee State Architect. Richard was a member of Franklin Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Wims Cardwell, of Franklin; three children, Tace William Cardwell, Lessye Crafton and husband, Stephen, and Josh Wyatt and wife, Jamie, all of Franklin; three grandchildren, Kobe Crafton, Izzy Wyatt and Luke Perkins; four sisters, Ruth Brown, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Cardwell, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Martha Rader, of Gainesville, Florida, and Anita Bowman of Wheelersburg; mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Wims, of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 6 a.m. Wednesday at Crafton Funeral Home.
