GREENUP, KENTUCKY — Members of the Greenup County Quilt Club are gearing up for their annual two-day show of their craft.
The show is set for April 13-14 at Greenbo Lake Sate Resort Park Lodge featuring quilts submitted in a variety of categories.
Registration for the show will be Friday, April 12 from 9 a.m-noon and all must have a four-inch sleeve to hang.
The show will last from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 and from noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.
This will be the second event of the season for the group, who hosted their Quilters Day Out show at the University of Kentucky Extension Office in Greenup on Saturday.
The show allowed visitors to come in and look over the group’s work, while members were offering demonstrations with sewing machines present for use.
“They’re showing people ideas for how to do it,” Ann Howard, of the club said. “Every person is set up.”
She said attendance for the event had been strong.
“It’s going wonderful,” she said. “And we all just had lunch.”
Howard said the club has about 25 members who meet once a month to work on quilts.
One of those working on embroidery was Cathy Gallion, whose quilts included one with hobo symbols, while her large Little Red Riding Hood piece hung in the window.
While Opal Griffith, of Wurtland, was not a member of the group, she had several pieces on hand for the event.
“I do them at home and bring them in,” she said.
Quilters Day Out is celebrated nationwide and was launched by Phyllis D. Miller, of Kentucky. As the event has grown, the third Saturday in March has been designated as International Quilting Day.
The Greenup group hosts Quilters Day Out at the convention center every two years.
